The Cure for Recession

I am so happy... tonight on the news Peter Mansbridge reported that Stephen Harper has finally admitted that a recession is taking place, even here in Canada *gasp* But don't worry Canadians, your money is safe, as long as you shop! That's right, the solution to the financial crisis is to go shopping, build a new house and fill you new car with fossil fuels.. essentially.. SPEND YOUR MONEY TO GET MORE MONEY.. what's that you say?? it doesnt make any sense?? let me break it down for you.. the government is going to introduce a budget deficit, that is essential and necessary in special times, which will place our country on a consuming addictive cycle to spend more and save more. If we as consumers keep spending our well earned funds in the mall, and purchase goods made in other countries such as thailand, china and india, then our economy will stabilize. "We reiterate our firm belief that free market principles, and open trade and investment regimes, will continue to drive global growth, employment and poverty reduction," the statement says.

Of course! because we need to open the markets to make them freer, so that people in developing countries can be paid even less for the shit we NEED! Harper is afraid that protectionist movements will take place if a global recession happens because countries want to save themselves from the big fat pigs of north america. Harper also used his speech to send a message that a freer trading system is the best way to restore global economic prosperity, saying the world is entering an economic period that is "potentially as dangerous" as anything the world has seen since 1929. Harper is only willing to have trade relations with countries who are 'like minded' or should I say brainwashed by globalism.

So, in order for us Canadians to help Mr.Prime Minister help us get out of this recession we need to get back on the horse, i mean shopping cart and enter back into the vicious cycle of working hard at our job to make money to buy the things we NEED, to only throw them out 6 months later, but keep working hard to make money to keep buying things we NEED, to only replace them once again with a newer model.

I have to say that I am actually happy that this recession is taking place, bc it is making people rethink their everyday consumer choices and maybe, just maybe, it will slow down our hungry capitalist bellies so we don't completely destroy this precious earth in the next 20 years.

However, one bad thing about the recession is that recycling is becoming a problem. The need for recycled materials, such as paper, cardboard and plastic isnt being purchased from the recycling depots and so these containers are being sent to the landfills because of lack of space. This could mean that we are going backwards in the green movement, which is exactly what we dont NEED right now.. but on a more positive note, maybe people will start to understand how everything is connected, the global market and the environment.

Just remember the 4 R's of recycling kids: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recession!!

Chinga Tu Madre

My kitchen is 98% Mexicans. Of course I am referring to my kitchen at the Oystercatcher Restaraunt, my place of employment. As a result I have been subject to the hilarity, loud, and passionate way of Mexicans. The 5 in my kitchen are always screaming, laughing and working hard, and I can always tell when they are recovering from a nite of partying and eating their own creations. I have recently befriended most of them, however one in particular is quite quiet, but so very sweet. Drinks are aften shared after work between all the employees, those working and not, its really funny how people are always at work when they arent actually scheduled. There is one guy who I swear should be paying rent he is there so much, and another who actaully lives in 'the hole' at the resturaunt, which is the recycling room, and he is the funniest person I know. It's quite amusing how mexican men are nothing like north american men, they are not subtle by any means, and will flat out ask for 5 mins in the cooler! Sometimes I will get unexpected brief kisses on my neck and wispered sweet nothings in my ear!! The cultural difference was shocking for me at first, I had a hard time responding and not reacting to their comments, but now I find it entertaining. The trick is to know that they are half joking, therefore they not offended when turned down, either politely or not. Responding with 'chinga tu madre' often works well.

One guy is persistent, charming, hilarious and sauve (when sober), so I agreed to meet with him after work for drinks, which turned into an all nite salsa dancing, uno playing, water fight that ended at 530am in his bed. Forunately we worked together alone at a smaller seperate part of the restuaraunt so we could milk our tired hangovers and not deal with alot of customers.. oops I mean guests.

A few days later I am still feeling like a bag of shit. This experience was really out of character for me, allowing a guy to enter me who I do not care about or am in a relationship with. I don't understand how some girls can sleep with randoms having one night stands and laugh it off afterwards. I wish I was the type of girl who could have meaningless sex, but I can not. Its not the attachment thing I struggle with, it's the fact that I barely know this person, especially THIS person, who I found out has quite a past and a very hard one at that. For me, the experience made me realise that I am not over my past, as much as I would like to be. Its hard to not compare everything to my last relationship, especially in between the sheets, when we were very comfortable with eachother, knew what eachother liked and werent afraid to take risks.

I guess sleeping with someone new after being in love is always going to be hard and I know I'm not going to do it again for a long time.
"desire blinds us."

Dance With Me

I love to dance!!! not the bump n'grind style of the night clubs, that is what the bedroom is for, but the real freedom of movement that entices one to move however they feel when music is playing on the stereo or in their head. when i'm dancing i am happy, and if im not dancing i'm not happy... its really that simple for me. i had an entire summer of dancing while biking around Vancouver Island, and then about a month ago my dancing came to a hault. i moved to a new location, on salt spring island, and my life slowed down. i have fewer friends, i have a new job which adds a little stress, and i don't have anyone to dance with me. however, i am not going to let these little niches stop me any longer, and i have the band UH HUH HER to thank. these two gals really know how to create kickass female rock music and they had my heart and my head banging moves at hello. the best song is 'this is not a love song', with 'explode' following closely behind. the beats are hard and electric, but the lyrics are soft and relative to all girls hearts. perfect for club dancing, bed dancing, or dancing in your room.
